The SoHy Co-op reached out to let us know that they’ve created a “virtual tip jar” for service employees in the SoHy area who suddenly find themselves out of work. Scroll through, find your favorite barista, bartender, Mead Maven, tattoo artist, server and do what you can to help them through this difficult time!
As of now, the list includes employees of Whistle Stop Studio, Streetcar 82 Brewing Co., Vigilante Coffee Co., Espaço Cultural Samba Trovão, Maryland Meadworks, Pizzeria Paradiso and Franklins Restaurant & Brewery. More to join, we’re sure!
The SoHy Co-op’s Krissi Humbard shares more about their Virtual Tip Jar below.
What is a Virtual Tip Jar?
A virtual tip jar is a way for community members to give a “tip” to those service workers and employees who find themselves unemployed or underemployed at this time.
The SoHy Co-op has been reaching out to local service industry employees and asking for them to populate the form with their name, username/handle, preferred payment platform and place of work.
Community members like you and me can then view the list and can make love offerings/tips to employees directly using payment platforms like CashApp, Venmo, or Paypal.
SoHy Virtual Tip Jar
To spread some love (money) to employees in the SoHy area, check out the SoHy Co-op Virtual Tip Jar list here.
To add your name to the list, fill in your information on this form here.
We love our small businesses and the small business owners and employees in the SoHy area. We want to help them get through these chaotic times however we can. The tip jar is one way we are trying to help.
Additional Resources
We’ve also updated our website with some resources for small business owners + employees in the area. And we’re trying to keep folks updated on closings / different hours / curbside pickup options on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
About the SoHy Co-op
The SoHy Co-op is a new membership-based business group in Hyattsville, formed by Krissi Humbard, Bronwyn King and Daniel Simon. Our mission is to create and support a vibrant mix of community, commerce and culture in the SoHy area of Hyattsville.
The SoHy Co-op is a 501c3 nonprofit created to support the businesses operating within the SoHy area along Route 1. We have defined the SoHy area loosely beginning at Green Owl Design near Hamilton Street and ending at Shortcake Bakery, at Charles Armentrout Drive. The SoHy Co-op is an inclusive group, so any business outside of those “boundaries” would be welcome, as well.
We hope to be a “one-stop shop” for all things SoHy, with our website listing the businesses in the area, events that are happening, spaces that are available to rent, some initial goals for the group and, currently, resources for the COVID-19 pandemic.
