“Sewing the Fabric of Our Community” by Kate Deciccio & Rose Jaffe.
Chances are, if live or work in one of the Route 1 communities, you’ve had the pleasure of seeing this beautiful public mural at the intersection of Flower Avenue and Piney Branch Road. (Ok. So while this is not Route 1, we do know that you sometimes leave the house/area, so it’s mighty possible that you’ve also been curious about this beauty. 🙂 )
Artists Kate Deciccio & Rose Jaffe
Designed and painted by Kate Deciccio and Rose Jaffe in 2015, “Sewing the Fabric of Our Community” bursts with color and “depicts the community of Long Branch through the faces and work of its residents,” per Discover Long Branch.
Rose Jaffe is a DC-based artist and Kate Deciccio is based in Oakland.
A plaque on the side of the building notes that the work was produced with the assistance of Montgomery Housing Partnership and the Long Branch Business League.
There’s not much more to report on Sewing the Fabric of Our Community other than to share its beauty and acknowledge the great artists behind it. Enjoy!
I used to work in MoCo (as they hate it to be called, lol) and passed through there often. I haven’t worked they’re since ’17. When was it painted? I don’t remember it.
Hi Maria – Thanks for your comment! And funny re. “MoCo”! From what I can tell, the mural was painted in 2015 though these things do take time to create so possible it wasn’t final until after you had left the area? Who know! Either way, it’s beautiful and you should check it out! 🙂
Now I know the mural you’re talking about!!!
So cool.
Indeed. And, you’re welcome! 😉
