Any time this weekend, check out this really fun and creative playground designed after Berwyn Heights’ earliest residents – a group of Algonquian people known as Nacotchtank. Kiddos will have a blast climbing teepees, in an out of canoes and up and down dream catchers.

This place is HUGE. Great for 1-12 years old. Two climbing walls. Two foam pits. Tons of equipment for curious ones to explore and blow off some steam. Very clean. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Adults are to be on the floor with the children (Max 3 child:1 adult).

Puerto Rico Relief
Hurricane Maria has left millions in Puerto Rico to face enormous challenges, but we will not let them face those challenges alone. Hyattsville’s Mayor Candace Hollingsworth asks that you join us to stuff a van with supplies to send to Puerto Rico. See list of requested supplies here.

Toddler Time @ Art Works Now

Raptors Reign
Join special guest and licensed falconer, Rodney Stotts, as he shares the power of nature through discussions and up close encounters with birds of prey. This is a drop-in program = no registration required. We’ve done this before and consider it a cool opp to see a huge owl up closed and then head outside to explore the Patuxent Research Refuge. Pack a picnic! (No food allowed indoors but plenty of space to eat outside; note that there are no garbage cans on site so plan accordingly.)

Hyattsville Cyclocross Bike Race 2017
We love checking out this annual off-road bike race through Magruder Park with the kids. We have fun watching the bikes whizz/whirr (?) by us and enjoy checking out all the fancy bikes + bike gear. When the kids tire of that, Magruder Park playground is right there so they can play while you check out the food/drinks being sold by Timber Pizza, Shortcake Bakery, Acme Pie Company, Franklins, Streetcar 82 & more! Tip: If you plan on buying food/drinks, aim to arrive early to mid-day as sometimes things run out!

Watkins Regional Park Playground
This. Place. Is Awesome. Truly awesome Wizard of Oz-themed playground where you literally follow the yellow brick road under a rainbow arch as the Scarecrow shows you the way to your choice of six fun areas: Dorothy’s Farm House, Munchkin Land, the Emerald Forest, the Emerald City of Oz, the Balloon Escape, the Ruby Red Shoes. Playground, nature center and farm are free to explore and enjoy!

Get outside! Head to Bladensburg Waterfront Park (BWP) and explore the new 4-mile segment of the Trail connecting the District with BWP! We packed lunches, parked at BWP and then walked the Trail all the way to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. It was lovely! No traffic – just folks outside loving life! Grab a bit of respite at Kenilworth, maybe eat that lunch you packed and then head back to BWP, where the kids can play/climb/laugh in an old B & O caboose.

Model Rocket Launches
Like to build model rockets, but don’t have a launch pad? Now you do! Anyone can bring a model to fly at the Goddard Visitor Center rocket launches; there are no costs or fees to participate. Rockets, motors and supplies are available for purchase at the nearby Goddard Gift Shop (and many hobby shops or toy stores) and you can even get rocket construction and launch tips from our on-site experts on launch day! Join us for our 2nd Annual Family Day Event. We’ll have rides (climbing wall and moon bounce,) prizes, El Zol Radio and Patricia de Lima, Elmo from Sesame Street, FREE food and drinks and music! balloon twisters and lots of give-aways!
