Family Fun: Frogs and Friends

It’s mating season for toads and frogs! Come learn about the many different amphibians we have here at Patuxent through hands-on games and activities for all ages. This is a drop-in program — come when you can and leave when you’re ready.

Paint Branch Parkway Park Playground (All Ages)
Get outside and check out this recently renovated playground, rivaling any great playground you’ve been to in DC, NYC or anywhere! Among other great things, its fireman’s pole use a fun hydraulic lift to boost kids (and adventurous adults…) up and down a log plank is a blast! (I know some folks have had trouble locating this playground, so sharing some notes from our recent visit: If heading north on Route 1, make R on to Campus Drive, pass Aviation Museum, pass Ice Skating rink and shortly thereafter, will see small sign for “Calvert Road” (as well as sign for “Paint Branch Parkway” & “Disc Golf”). Make L and playground will be down a bit on your left.)

Indian Creek Playground (All Ages)
Any time this weekend, check out this really fun and creative playground designed after Berwyn Heights’ earliest residents – a group of Algonquian people known as Nacotchtank. Kiddos will have a blast climbing teepees, in an out of canoes and up and down dream catchers. If you get hungry afterwards, check out

Women’s History Month: Nevertheless, she persisted (Ages 5-12)
Celebrate National Women’s History Month with us! Honor women who have shaped America’s history and its future through their tireless commitment to ending discrimination against women and girls.

Playground at University Hills Duck Pond Park (All Ages)
Pack a picnic, check out the duck pond and then have fun at 1 of the 3 playgrounds at this park! There’s one right at the entrance off of Wells Blvd but if you wander a bit on the bike path you’ll find there’s an even bigger one just down to the right with structures for the toddler and 5-12 crew.

Community Forklift’s Garden Party & Spring Fundraiser

Great Magruder Park Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast
Breakfast begins at 9am; egg hunts are organized by age group and start at 11am. Reservations are suggested and can be made here.

Kids’ Passport to Maryland History (Ages 5-12)
Travel through Maryland history with crafts and activities for school-aged children. Fill up your “passport” to earn a Maryland Junior Historian certificate.

Spring Egg Hunt
It’s the City of College Park’s Annual Spring Egg Hunt! Join us for a spring-time fun egg hunt. There will be face painting, games, prizes, arts and crafts, meet the Bunny and more!

Family Funfest!
Fun and games, rides, face painting, music, activities, hang out with Baysox fun-loving mascots Louie and Rocko along with the Oriole Bird and special appearance by Mickey Mouse!

Refuge System Birthday Bash

This year we will be celebrating the Refuge System’s 115th birthday! All of the festivities will be held at the National Wildlife Visitor Center. This year’s theme is “The Family of Earth”. Some of the
highlights of the day will include a live puppet show, crafts for kids, raptor demonstrations, live music, and tours through the forest on our electric tram.

Brunch with Bunny
Enjoy a complimentary brunch, be entertained by local performers and create fun arts and crafts while you wait for the Bunny to hop in!

Storytime at Whole Foods Market (Ages 4-10)
Join us in our store for story time and songs with the Hyattsville Library staff! They’ll also lead kids in a fun craft activity involving healthy food! After story time, climb aboard the Children’s Museum Explore Bus for fun missions (details below). RSVP here.

Riverdale Park Easter Egg Party 
Easter Bunny will stop by and we will also have a DJ!

Birds of Prey Day 
Come join us for an extravaganza of raptors! Meet live birds up close – falcons, hawks, owls and more! And see a falconry demonstration!

Explore! Mission Mobile Bus (Ages 5+)
Kids will get to explore the Solar System during an out of this world 20 minute tour from the Sun to Pluto. Space is limited. Reserve here! Stop by the Whole Foods Market stand outside for lemonade and cookies. Proceeds will benefit the Whole Planet Foundation.

Easter Egg Dyeing Workshop
Fun! Glitter! Eggs! Enjoy all three at this free family-friendly workshop. Create beautiful decorated eggs that will impress friends and even the Easter Bunny. Children will receive their first two eggs for free. Additional eggs will be available to purchase 2 for $1.

The Cat in the Hat
Everyone’s favorite cat comes to mischievous life in this theatrical adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic!

2018 Game of Step Competition
The 2018 Game of Step is a high school step competition hosted by the Lady Raiders and Dem’ Raider Boyz of Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Come witness some of the best step teams from around the country battle for the throne!

Tiny Tots: Nature and Music (Ages 16-48 mos)

DIY Zine Workshop

Anyone can make a zine: all you need is some paper, a writing utensil, copy machine, and a desire to create. Meet the artists from not too high, not too low and learn how to get started designing your very own self-published, no rules art piece. Join DC’s long tradition of DIY, counterculture art! This is a free, walk-in workshop open to all ages and levels of experience!
