Kids’ Weekend Guide: March 10th-12th

Crazy Eagles in Laurel, St. Patty’s Fun Fair & Preschooler Yoga in College Park, Stuart Little & Little Makers in Greenbelt, Storytime in Hyattsville, Smoothies and DIY slime in Mt. Rainier (not in that order 😁), a cool reception honoring National Youth Art Month (including 11th grade artist, Ruiting Jia, featured above!) & more!  All local, all this weekend!  


Toddler Time @ Art Works Now
Open studio time for toddlers and their accompanying adults.  DIY Slime: Drop-in and create your own gooey, messy slime! This is a great sensory play project to do with your toddler.
When: 10am-12pm

Storytime PopUp!  @ The Waterhole 
Join us for stories, songs, fingerplays and more at this innovation collaboration between PGCMLS & Mt. Rainier’s fabulous organic juice & smoothie joint, The Waterhole. Best for 0-5 years old.  Curious?  Click here for fun video of a past collabo!  Thirsty? Order the kid-friendly “Berry Nice.” 👍

Extraordinary Eagles
Eagle nesting season is almost over! Take a hike with a naturalist around Cash Lake to find adult eagles and learn what makes them such extraordinary raptors. Registration is required by calling 301-497-5887. Ages 8-10.
When: 3-4:30pm
Where: National Wildlife Visitor Center, 10901 Scarlet Tanager Loop, Laurel
Cost: Free! (Donations welcome.)

Little Makers – Paper Lunch Bags!
Children work together with their parents/caretakers to craft, create, invent and explore! Just bring your ideas and creativity – we’ll provide the materials!  Ages 2-6.
When: 5-7pm
Where: Greenbelt’s Maker Space, 125 Centerway, Greenbelt
Cost: Free!


St. Patty’s Fun Fair (10am-2pm) & Open House (10-11am)
Join this family-friendly event sponsored by the College Park Nursery School & enjoy fun games, art projects, food, a silent auction and a raffle that helps support the operating costs of the school. Best for kiddos 2-5 years old.  Check out the Open House from 10am-11am! 
When: 10am-2pm

Cost: No entry free; purchase tickets to play games (carnival style)

Nature Craft 
Pack a lunch.  Head for this Nature Craft program to enjoy a story, meet a live animal, and make a craft. Then head to the adjacent, awesome 12,000 square foot “Wizard of Oz”-themed playground!  Eat lunch.  Head home.  See – just scheduled an amazingly fun, low-cost, Prince George’s-based morning for you and your young ones!  👊

Spanish/English Ready to Read Storytime

Public Reception & Awards Ceremony: Fifth Annual Artists on the Rise
Got yourself a burgeoning artist? Then take him/her to this reception honoring National Youth Art Month where be exposed to the great artwork of teens (ages 13-18) in the DC metropolitan area.

Movie Time!  Family Series – Stuart Little

Open Gym – Bounce & Jump Around!
If you haven’t checked this place out yet with your energetic 1-12 year old(s), then let this be the day!  This place is really great.  HUGE.  Two climbing walls.  Two foam pits.  Tons of equipment for curious ones to explore and blow off some steam.  Very clean.  Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents are required to be on the floor with the children.  
When: 1:30-2:30pm
Where: Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex, 8001 Sheriff Rd, Landover

Parent + Preschooler Yoga 
(in support of The Greenwood School)

Enjoy an hour of playful poses with your 2-5 year old led by yoga instructor and preschool teacher Kristen.  Thanks to Numi’s generosity, half of every admission will go to support the Friends of Greenwood’s Tuition Assistance Program! Space is limited to 15 parent/child pairs, so register and pay online ASAP to reserve your spot! Go to the Greenwood website ( and click on the “Namaste Banner” to register.

Cost: $25 (1/2 goes to support the Friends of Greenwood’s Tuition Assistance Program!)  

Smaland at College Park’s Ikea

Free, 1 hour, supervised, enclosed, safe & clean play area near the entrance.  Enjoy some shopping or just relax/eat/peoplewatch at the restaurant upstairs while your young one(s) has a blast at Smaland.  Children must be potty trained and be 37” to 54” tall (so children typically b/w ages of 3-6).  Tips: (1) Best to arrive earlier on in the day as day progresses, so do the entrances lines; & (2) Join Ikea Family & kids get extra 30 minutes to play (depending on capacity) & you get free coffee! 
When: 10:30am – 7pm
